WALTER VYHMEISTER, PhD

My Name is Walter Vyhmeister
As a high school graduate, during political unrest in Chile, I emigrated to the United States - the land of the free.
At this young age, I was strongly impressed with the similarities of human needs as they transcended geographical, political, economic and cultural boundaries.
A Bit About Me
My desire to develop a solid foundation that would make my life relevant and meaningful led me to the study of theology. After completing a BA in Theology and a Masters in Divinity, I had the privilege of ministering to Christian congregations for several years.
Because I wanted to meet the needs of people in a more effective way, as well as my own desire for personal growth, I chose to further my education. I received a Master in Community Counseling followed by a PhD in Counseling Psychology. Since then, I have been in private practice as a counselor, adjunct instructor for courses in medical ethics and religion, and Assistant Director for Behavioral Medicine in a family practice residency program. As faculty in the Behavioral Medicine department, my role was to teach and model the integration of psychological and spiritual factors in patient care to young physicians, training them to deliver “Whole Person” care to their patients.
Later, I was able to practice what I taught in academics as I worked with children and their families addressing many behavioral and clinical issues with their caretakers (parents, relatives, teachers, and other involved providers).
At the present time, my focus of therapy includes, but is not limited to, clinical, family, career, marital, parenting and spiritual issues.
My wife and I have been married for a few decades, and together we have raised two sons who are now on their own career and life journeys.
As life’s journey has taken me down many different paths, each path has been an enriching experience. In turn, my purpose is to continue to enrich the lives of others.
